Packing
Tips
Relocating can be stressful with major changes in your life and that of your family. Therefore, we have a listed a number of things for you to consider when planning your move, if you decide to do it yourself.
- Use strong boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts. All be purchased from Choice Van Lines at reasonable prices.
- Labeling each box with a description of its contents and which room the box belongs in. Also label boxes containing breakable or sentimental items with "Fragile".
- When packing breakables, leave a 2-4 inch layer of white paper at the bottom, sides and top of the box.
- Heavier items such as books are much easier to carry in smaller boxes.
- To safeguard against unnecessary damage, it's a good idea to put all furniture knobs, feet, screws, etc. in one container that you can keep with you so the parts won't get lost.
- Wardrobe boxes can be used for handling clothing. Other clothing, blankets and linens can be folded and packed in linen boxes. We recommend emptying all dressers and chests as the added weight can make them difficult to move susceptible to damage.
- Figure out what you'll need the first day after your move. Packing a separate bag with your toiletries, a change of clothes, etc. This will prevent unnecessary scrambling or a run to the local store.
- Wrap electronic equipment in bubble wrap and place in box (ideally in the original boxes). Place bubble wrap at bottom and sides to prevent movement.
